Embossing is a technique which creates a raised, or 3-dimensional, image on a piece of SHEET METAL. Conventional Embossing process involves making a matching and female die and by placing the sheet metal in between and applying pressure between the two dies to form the metal.
Making such tooling is very expensive.
A more economical way is to make only half of the tool , usually the protruding shape in a metal plate by CNC machining and by using a Urethane tool to form the metal against this machined plate.

Copper embossed part produced by molding a Urethane Punch & Die replicated from a carved piece of wood. A famous Hollywood producer wanted this for his house in NAPA. The cost of the tooling and the quality were unbeatable
